Tile Program
ABOUT THE HINSDALE 5TH GRADE WALL TILE PROJECT
In 2018, upon the opening of the new addition to the Hinsdale Elementary School, the Hinsdale Education Foundation (HEF) launched the 5th Grade Wall Tile Project.

Through this project every 5th grade student designs a tile that will be part of a class display to be permanently installed in the corridor of the new addition.

Eight wall sections have been designated to extend this project to include the 5th grade classes thru 2026. This schedule will provide for the participation of every Pre-K thru 5th grade student in school when the new addition opened.

On DARE Graduation day in 2019 the first 5th Grade Display was unveiled. Thirty-eight students each created a tile design to express the theme “Helping Hands”. The resulting display is a fascinating presentation of the generosity and creativity of the class.

The process of collaborating as a class on setting a theme, then creating a design to present that theme, develops skills essential to success in the higher grades and in life in general.
The tile project provides a meaningful way for 5th graders to mark their graduation to Middle School. Making a personal and permanent contribution to the building recognizes the maturity level they have achieved.

What types of projects are typically not funded?
